Instrument Technician

Job Type:      Full-time, Permanent, 3/4 3/4

Location:     Shetland Gas Plant

The Instrument Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of instrumentation and control systems used in oil and gas site operations. This role is crucial for ensuring the functionality and safety of equipment that is essential for the efficient and safe operation of site facilities.

Details/duties:

  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on a wide range of instrumentation and control equipment to ensure reliability and accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation issues, minimizing downtime and enhancing system performance.
  • Calibrate and configure instrumentation to meet operational requirements and industry standards.
  • Implement modifications and upgrades to existing systems as part of continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations during all activities.
  • Document all maintenance activities, creating detailed reports and maintaining records for compliance and operational analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support and enhance overall plant safety and efficiency.

Qualifications/Experience required:

  • Essential: Technical diploma or equivalent qualification in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Desirable: Certification in specific instrumentation technologies or control systems.
  • Essential: Valid Connected Competence current technical certification:
  • TMI01 – Pressure measurement and control systems
  • TMI02 – Level measurement and control systems
  • TMI04 – Temperature measurement and control systems
  • TMI14 – Flow measurement and control systems
  • TMI17 – Maintain, calibrate and commission a process control valve
  • TSBT02 – Disassemble and reinstall SBT assemblies
  • Compex Certificate

or

  • *TIE16 – Installing cables in an Intrinsically Safe system
  • TIE17 / *TIE17(Ex) – Install, Gland and Terminate Power Cables
  • *TEM10 – Hazardous area inspection of electrical equipment
  • Desirable:
  • TSBT 03 Assemble and Install Small Bore Tubing Assemblies (Cone & Threaded)
  • Leak/Gas Tester
